How to Stop Wasting Food (and the Money That Goes With It)

Food waste is money you already spent, thrown away twice — once at the store and once at the bin. The fixes are small and mostly free.

Shop your fridge first

Before every grocery run, take two minutes to see what’s already there and needs using. Plan a meal or two around it. Most waste is just food forgotten behind other food.

Store things to last

  • Herbs in a jar of water, like flowers.
  • Greens with a paper towel to catch moisture.
  • Bread in the freezer if you won’t finish it in days.

Keep an “eat me first” shelf

Give one spot in the fridge to things on their last legs, and raid it before opening anything new. And make friends with the freezer — most leftovers, soups, and even milk freeze happily. A little attention turns “we wasted that” into another meal.
